Burlesque and Fancy Dress Parties – Some Tips

For a party to be a success the host will have to put a lot of thought and planning into the preparations, especially if it a  fancy dress party. Here are some tips to help you organise a the perfect burlesque fancy dress party.

1. Invitations
Once the date and venue is confirmed get the invitations out. we recommend sending by post as well as text and e-mail.  Invitations set the tone of the party. A basic, scribbled note gives the wrong impression. If you want the guests to put effort into  the costumes  then you, as the host need to make sure the invitations stand out. For a burlesque fancy dress party  try silver
or gold writing on a black background. Remember a burlesque party should be centered on a cabaret theme, more than likely  set in the in the 20s or 30′s. Because fancy dress parties require more effort on the part of the host and guests get things off to a good start with a quality invitation that states the dress code, in large print.

It is always a good idea to send a copy of the invitation by e-mail as well. That way people will know you are serious.

2. Decorations.
Every party follows a certain format but what will really make your burlesque party stand out is the effort you put into the decorations.  As soon as the guests enter the house or party venue they should be in no doubt about the theme. As stated earlier burlesque parties  are rooted in cabaret. Round tables with a light or candle in the centre in a darkened room would be appropriate. Decorations can be as  simple as feather boas and fans hanging on the walls. The dominant colours should be red and black.

The decorations do not have to cost a fortune. The simplest and first thing you should do is change all the clear light bulbs for red ones.  Then head to the local curtain / fabric shop and get so netting. This can be fixed to the wall and lights strung across it. All adding to the  cabaret atmosphere.

Of course there are many other elements that need to be planning such as the food and drink but if you get both the invitations and decorations right then you are a very long way down the road of organising a memorable burlesques fancy dress party.
