THANK GOODNESS IT’S FRIDAY PARTY

There is nothing like that ” Friday Feeling” after a hard week at school or work. When Friday comes around most people are tired and just want to relax. That is no excuse to duck out of hosting a party.  The main thing to remember is keeping it relaxed and informal. Your guests will not want to be rushing home to get ready for a night of formal entertainment. Most will just want to get into their jeans and have a few beers.

So let’s start with a TGIF party for children. I know in my house the kids live for their Friday treat. Why not have a few
of their friends around directly after school. If the weather is good, fire up the BBQ and eat in the garden. Have plenty
of games ready. Nothing complicated. Relay races, egg and spoon races and throwing bean bags into a bucket will
keep them entertained.

If the weather is not so good then plan B will have to swing into action. In that case a game of darts using the “suction” or magnetic versions is perfect and if you have a bag of marbles you will also keep their attention.

If you wanted something a little more organised then why not ask them to arrive in fancy dress. Suggest a theme such as space or cowboys. The only thing to be wary of is that not everyone may have a suitable fancy dress costume so perhaps you are better just keeping the arrangements as simple as possible.

Organising a Fancy Dress Party – Step 1

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Some of the best parties I have attended have been fancy dress affairs. When it is properly organised and people enter into the spirit of the occassion it is great fun.

The key to hosting a successful fancy dress party is to send a very clear, unambiguous invitation  that leaves noboby in any doubt as to what king of party it will be. To help your guests you should have a theme for the party. Popular choices include, vicars and tarts, super heroes but with the release of the new film, Sex and the City parties are hitting the top of the most popular fancy dress themes.

One of my favourite themes is ” Father Ted” . There is a week long Father Ted festival held off the West Coast of Ireland every year. As well as been super fun you can really test the limits of your fancy dress ability. Just think of all the characters, from Ted himself to Father Jack and of course there is Mrs Doyle. You could be a different character every day.

So if you are thinking of hosting a fancy dress party make sure the invitaions you send clearly state the theme and if you have time a few texts / e-mails to confirm the arrangements will do no harm.
